The New York Times reports that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been hit with what is described as “a large and sophisticated cyberattack whose dimensions are still unknown.”

  1. I hit “post” too quickly. Taken from the article:

    “It also includes communications with national leaders as they negotiate, often behind the scenes, on the terms of international bailouts. Those agreements are, in the words of one fund official, “political dynamite in many countries.” It was unclear what information the attackers were able to access. ”

    Some of these are “democratic” governments where in a just society these publicly financed arrangements should be available under ATIP. Are we moving towards a world where cyber-attacks and Wikileaks are a requirement for basic democracy?

    BTW: The Bretton Woods Institutions (IMF, World Bank) have been political dynamite since their inception, given there is a pretty narrow/controversial ideological view of economic policy imposed by the IMF and World Bank as a condition of those “loans”.
